Sydney/Hunter

The story of Australian wine had its genesis here on the shores of Sydney’s harbour. It was soon relocated to nearby Parramatta, and soon after to the Hunter River Valley, 150 kilometres to the North. We take a brief look at the history and meet several of the wine pioneering families, today. Today the Hunter produces much of Australia’s medium weight quality white and red wine with outstanding international acceptance for its Shiraz, as produced by McGuigan Wines, the Drayton family and many others. The Hunter’s white wine, in particular its Chardonnay, is renowned, particularly its Vat 47 produced by Tyrells Wines.
