Rouen (Normandy)

While it is the capital of upper Normandy and one of France’s most active inland ports, Rouen is best known as the place where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake by the English in 1431. We visit this site and the Notre Dame Cathedral, one of France’s purist examples of gothic architecture. Normandy has a rich folklore tradition which dates back to the Vikings. We see an outstanding recreation of ancient celebration complete with colourful costumes and dancing. Recipes include: Oysters, Pressed Duck, Turbot with Cream Cider Sauce and a dessert.
