Rhone Alpes

To begin: a red wine from the vineyards established by the Roman Legions near Vienne and a little local history as we visit the town’s amphitheatre and Roman monuments. Then on to the estate established by George Vernay, the wine pioneer credited with re-discovering the white wine Viognier. We stop at other wine districts in the Northern Rhone River district including Hermitage and St. Peray. The preparation of the region’s simple potato dish, Gratin Dauphinois, presented by one of the region’s top chefs. A visit to a family vineyard in the shadow of Mont Blanc; and, what began as a medicine, prepared by the Monks hundreds of years ago, still to be found in homes and bars around the world today.
