Gavi, outstanding white wine produced in Piemonte on the estates, once Barbarossa’s favourite Lambrusco pioneers. Also a ravioli recipe linked to the wine: “Ravioli Al Plin”. On to Lombardia and the sparkling wines of Franciacorta and industry leaders, Monte Rossa. In the south of the region is Castel Luzzano on the site of an ancient Roman vineyard where Giovanella Fugazza produces Bonarda and Barbara. Also, we take in the story of the Chiarli family, the founders of Lambrusco, considered to be the “Italian Coca Cola”. On to the lake district in the west and Bardolino, the fabulous red to be drunk in summer and winter.
