Melbourne/Sunbury/Macedon Ranges

Melbourne, capital of the State of Victoria, was once the gateway for the Australian colony’s biggest area of wine production. Today, in Victoria, there are over 250 vineyards. The first vines were planted at Goona Warra Estate, and subsequently at the Craiglee Vineyard. One of Sunbury’s earliest vineyards was established at Rupertswood, a vast country estate of Australia’s first Baronet. Rupertswood is considered to be a classic reflection of the Victorian era. Today excellent white and red wines are produced in this district. Just to the North is the Macedon Ranges district, where some of Australia’s most outstanding sparkling wines are produced at several wineries including the Hanging Rock Winery.
